A heartfelt Valentine’s Day tribute unfolded along Duke Street as a devoted supporter waited patiently to present Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport Olivia Grange with a special token of appreciation. Carl Campbell stood at the sidelines for approximately 45 minutes during the ceremonial opening of Parliament, holding a Valentine’s basket and a single rose as he awaited the minister’s arrival. When Grange exited her vehicle, Campbell made his way through the gathering crowd, smiling as he personally handed over the gifts before carefully placing them inside her vehicle for safekeeping. “My mother, that. A she grow me from mi little,” Campbell told Observer Online, explaining that he felt compelled to express his admiration ahead of Valentine’s Day, observed annually on February 14. He revealed that he and his brother purchased the basket in downtown Kingston on Wednesday afternoon, taking care to ensure the gift was fitting for the occasion. “Mi love her so mi did have to get her a gift,” he said, noting that his admiration for the minister stems largely from what he described as her generosity and compassionate nature.
