Rapper Shyne is set to headline a special 25th-anniversary homecoming concert at Kings Theatre on May 2 at 9 p.m., commemorating a quarter-century since the release of his debut album, Shyne, which first charted in 2000, according to AllHipHop. The performance marks a significant return for the artist, now a serving lawmaker in Belize, to Brooklyn, the community where he was raised and where his music career first took shape. It will also be his first major headlining appearance in several years. Released on September 26, 2000, through Bad Boy Records, Shyne’s self-titled debut album entered the Billboard 200 at No. 5 and later achieved Gold certification, solidifying his place among hip-hop’s early-2000s breakout acts. His sophomore project, Godfather Buried Alive, debuted at No. 3 in 2004 while he was incarcerated, further cementing his legacy within the genre. Reflecting on the upcoming performance, Shyne described the moment as deeply personal. “It is surreal to return to the stage in the neighborhood where I grew up for a night of performances celebrating classic raw hip-hop,” he said in a statement. The anniversary concert is expected to blend nostalgia with reflection, celebrating both his musical impact and his evolution from chart-topping rapper to political figure, as fans gather to revisit a defining era of hip-hop history.
